This study aims to elucidate the cognitive processes of junior high school students in solving problems related to plane geometry. A descriptive qualitative methodology was employed, which is well-suited for comprehending the thinking processes and challenges encountered by students in mathematical problem-solving tasks. The subjects of this research comprised seventh-grade students from a junior high school in Cimahi City, who had received permission from the school and consent from the students themselves. The research instrument was a problem-solving test on plane geometry, consisting of five validated items. Data collection was carried out through the administration of this test. Subsequently, students' responses to each item were analyzed to discern their thinking patterns and the factors influencing their problem-solving abilities. The findings indicate that students exhibit low proficiency in their cognitive processes when solving plane geometry problems. This deficiency is attributed to a lack of understanding of the fundamental concepts of plane geometry, inadequate procedural knowledge, and imprecision in arithmetic operations. These issues hinder their ability to execute plans and verify their answers. This research aims to provide a deeper insight into students' cognitive processes in solving plane geometry problems and identify the difficulties they encounter, thereby serving as a foundation for developing effective instructional methods.
